Being a creative person is hard for a number of reasons. If you’re worth your weight you put enormous pressure on yourself to keep the standards of work high, you’re always trying to walk the fine line between honestly expressing yourself and creating something that people will be able to relate somehow to and despite what creative professionals will have you believe, you are always trying your hardest to make an emotional connection.
Alicia Keys has managed to create one of the strongest emotional connections I have had to a song in a long time. The best thing about this is I can’t put my finger on the exact reason the connection was made. So I keep listening to find out and I am still not burned out on the song. It’s quite incredible.
Drake’s appearance is unexpected. He guest features but doesn’t rap a single bar and in doing so, offers himself up as an example of how to do what is honest and still get the respect you deserve in an industry so quickly willing to label.
