Portformat “The Repeat Factor Remixes”

Some brand new goodies from Tokyo Dawn’s Portformat. Instantly became a fan when his remix of Comfort Fit’s “Peter Pan” came out. This Suzi Analogue feature was one of my faves. Soulful wonked out offbeat loveliness! The next release will be from Swede:art called “Emotional Colors”.. with guest artists such as Blaktroniks, Caits Meissner, Comfort Fit, Duktus, Note, Persuit Grooves and Stray.. This label will be busy this year, so keep them on your radar.

From the label:
Tokyo Dawn Records adds fourteen remixes ranging from dance to dub to Portformat’s highly successful debut album ‘The Repeat Factor’.

Featuring Alien Entertainment, Andreas Saag (Swell Session), Blaktroniks, Bless1, Comfort Fit, Dandario, Dudley Perkins, Gajah, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Jedeye, Killing Skills, Negghead, Obey The Altar Native, Opolopo, Red Light Boogie, Resound, Ronni Vindahl (Boom Clap Bachelors), Shuanise, Soulparlor, Suzi Analogue, Swede:art, Thesaurus Rex.

This was made on a budget of $5K. Unreal.

L.A. Series #3

I think my face just melted. What the fuck are these guys doing before they get down engineering sounds? This is beyond getting baked. Funny thing is, this track made me want to eat fishsticks. Next level of music production: suggested selling of an appetite.

Overall some great tracks from LA producers Samiyam and Ras G!

Free the Robots

Holy shit! I’m diggin’ this album! So many songs to call out for one reason or another. Every single track has something that makes it stick to your eardrums and certainly will be heavy on your rotation. I love the melodies and the contrast between the sounds. It’s got an 8-bit feel, heavy on drums and crushing bass. There are a couple of tracks that bend the genre and float in between dub, electro, and hip-hop.

This album comes highly recommended! It’s quite the evolution in sound from previous Free the Robot releases.

Alex B / Moments

To classify this as “The Beats” doesn’t do it justice. It’s more than beats – it’s a solid, thoughtful album swinging from downtempo dwellings inspired by dilla-esque beats found in Talk it out – to wonderful soulful jams like getting to know you with Lilla D’mone. So why am I posting this under Beats? Alex, I would imagine considers himself a “beatmaker” yet what he’s doing many “beatmakers” need to aspire to do – create full fledged albums that have highs, lows, and mids. That tell stories and are a pleasure to listen to. Cue Take, Flylo, 88 Keys.

If you haven’t heard of ALex B, now you have. If you have, consider this reaffirmation of his badassness.
