After hearing Banco de Gaia (aka Toby Marks) on Sirius XM Chill station, I fell in love with his music. Songs From The Silk Road might be my new favorite album. Released earlier this year, the album reveals two decades of recordings, hits and remixes from this father of elecronica. This is a compilation of his best work; a cross-pollination of world music and house. The album vibrates with a tribal electricity.
“I wanted to round up the body of work and create a portfolio for new listeners. The origins of this sound, a sound that’s now ubiquitous, are really interesting, and I want people to know more about it. Back then in early days, we were inventing this whole new thing. This album shows that, and how things have evolved since,” says Gaia.
