The state of the music video is on a resurgence. We at YYY are VERY excited about this and support it fully. In one day I have been barraged with a swarm of examples of high budget, low budget, and all in all fine examples of creativity. The new Gorilliaz video featuring Bruce Willis and referencing scenes from Mad Max is flat out awesome. The new Lady GAGA / Beyonce’ video has me completely on the fence. The production quality is SO over the top that they were forced to include tons of little sponsorship bits – ranging from cute, to very smart, to a tad lame and pretentious. That’s advertising these days. The new Chrsitiana Aguilera. video is visually spectacular, awe inspiring yet as vague as a video can get. Seems to be one of a series. The TOPS of them all is a video done by Record Makers for their 10 year anniversary. It features a beautiful track by Sébastien Tellier while the visual masterpiece is by Moriceau and Mrzyk. My FAVORITE illustrator combo. I hunted down a book of theirs in Paris last time I was there. If Lady GaGa and Co. were going for sexy – they’ve been outdone by this parisian pair. Death to TV, long live the video . . . online.
