Trevor Powers, the indie-pop brilliance behind Youth Lagoon, has home-recorded a hit record. He’s got a touch for poetic imagery and pretty melodies that stand apart from others in the indie scene. All those years playing music in a small town has apparently paid off.
“The Year of Hibernation” is Power’s warm and fuzzy cry to venture outside Boise, Idaho. The entire album has a claustrophobic, yet comfy bedroom feeling. He gives listeners a peek into his childhood, but keeps them entertained with catchy sing-alongs and electric keys.
This short and sweet song not only breathes nostalgia, it has some memorable lyrics:
When I was seventeen, my mother said to me. "Don’t stop imagining. The day that you do is the day that you die."
Sounds like her son took that literally and created a great album, this song in particular.
